2024 Dairy Cattle Welfare Symposium

Promoting dairy cattle welfare and ethics through science and implementation of best practices

Join us for a two-day in-person symposium covering dairy cattle welfare from the beginning to the end. This annual event brings together dairy farmers, veterinarians, consultants, universities, and the dairy community for learning and discussion to continue to improve the well-being and health of dairy cattle and the ability and fulfilment of farmers and their staff. Feature speakers include:

  • Keynote: "The Human Dimension of Animal Welfare" - Dr. David Fraser, Professor Emeritus, University of British Columbia
  • Dr. Gavin Staley, Diamond V - "Productive Life of Dairy Cattle"
  • Dr. David Renaud, University of Guelph - "Welfare Aspects of Long Distance Transport of Dairy Calves"
  • Dr. Jessica Pempek, USDA ARS - "Welfare of Non Replacement Calves"
  • Tim Joseph, Maple Hill Creamery - "Building a Grass-Fed Brand"

The program will also include producer panel discussions as well as short oral research presentations on dairy welfare-related research by students from universities across the globe. There will also be a pre-conference session in Spanish on June 4th focused on the theme: "Leadership and animal welfare culture".
